A while back, I asked about which collection should I create for her, and the majority of you voted for a Safari crochet Animals! So here we are, starting with this Elephant, the collection has 12 crochet animals that slowly will start coming out online! I hope you have some fun crocheting these animals!

Elephant free crochet pattern
Materials:
- 2mm crochet hook
- Gray, white, and a little bit of pink for the cheek. I used 100% cotton, lightweight, 4ply.
- Black thread for embroidering the eyes.
- Stuffing material
- Scissors
- Sewing needle.
- Or, you can use safety eyes! The position is at the end of this post.
Finish size: 18cm or (about) 7 inches.

With gray yarn start,

19 rnd 6sc crocheting the sides together, closing the nose.
• Cut the yarn, fasten it off, and leave a tail for sewing it.
• Don’t need to add stuffing material here. The trunk has a good structure and is good for moving.
EARS
Start with gray,
1 row 4sc in a magic ring, chain 1 and turn
2 row 4inc, chain 1 and turn Total 8sts
3 row (1sc, 1inc) repeat 4 times, chain 1 and turn Total 12sts
4 row (2sc, 1inc) repeat 4 times, chain 1 and turn Total 16sts
5 row (3sc, 1inc) repeat 4 times, chain 1 and turn Total 20sts
6 row (4sc, 1inc) repeat 4 times, chain 1 and turn Total 24sts
7 row (5sc, 1inc) repeat 4 times, chain 1 and turn Total 28sts
8 row 27sc, work 3sc on the last st, here continue working on the foundation of the ear, making a contour, 15sc, 2sc in the first st, join with sl.
• Cut the yarn, fasten it off, and leave a tail for sewing it.
• Make another one following the same instructions.
PAWS
With gray start,
1 rnd 6sc in a magic ring
2 rnd 6inc Total 12sts
3 rnd (1sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 18sts
4 and 5 rnd 18sc
6 rnd (1sc, 1dec) repeat 6 times Total 12sts
7 to 15 rnd 12sc
• Add stuffing material until half way of the paws before continuing to round 16.
16 rnd 6sc crocheting the sides together, closing the paw.
• Cut the yarn and fasten it off.
• Make another four in total following the same instructions.
• Leave a small tail for sewing it.
TUSKS
With white yarn, chain 5. Skip the first chain and start,
1 row 4sl
• Cut the yarn and fasten it off. Leave a small tail for sewing .
• Make another one following the same instructions
TAIL
With gray yarn, chain 6. Cut the yarn and fasten it off. Leave a small tail for sewing it.
ASSEMBLY
- Introduce two rounds of the body inside the head. Sew the head taking the second round (counting from top to bottom) of the body.
- Sew the top paws in the first round of the body, leaving 8 stitches between one to another.
- Sew the down paws in round 10 of the body, leaving 15 stitches between one to another.
- Sew the nose between rounds 11 and 12.
- Sew the tusks on each side under the nose.
- Sew the ears starting between rounds 4 and 5 and finishing in round 15. Leave the rest of the ear without sewing.
- Embroider the eyes in round 11, leaving 7 stitches between them. With the same thread, embroider the eyebrow one round above the eye. 1. Make a little X on its belly button.
- Cut about 10 pieces of 8cm (3 inches) and attach them on top of its head.
- Optional: With white yarn, embroider a small line beside the eyes. With a small piece of light pink yarn, embroider one line two rounds under its eyes and 1 stitch away from the nose.
- 1.Sew the tail on its back in round 11 of the body.

One more slight error was in the elephant body: R9-23, and then it started using R23 again instead of R24. I have this all written off and can't wait to make this little cutie! Thank you so much for doing these creations! I'm loving it and hope I haven't been too much a pain here.

I am writing out this elephant free pattern as I have a baby in the family with a bedroom of safari animals, so this collection is coming out timely!! I write it in 'my shorthand' and just did see the head section and believe there is an error as you are decreasing the head....you still have increase there instead of decrease. Love your patterns!!
