In this blog post, I share this little lion crochet toy, with a complete video tutorial and suitable for amigurumi beginners. And is super fast to crochet!

Chubby Lion free amigurumi pattern

Materials:

  • 2mm crochet hook 
  • I used 4ply 100% acrylic yarn colors orange, brown and light brown. But you can use any yarn of your preference!
  • Black thread for embroidering the eyes. 
  • Stuffing material
  • Scissors
  • Sewing needle.
  • Or, you can use safety eyes! The position is at the end of this post.

HEAD

With orange yarn start,

1 row              6sc in a magic ring

2 row              6inc Total 12sts

3 row              (1sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 18sts
4 row              (2sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 24sts
5 row              (3sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 30sts
6 row              (4sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 36sts

7 row              (5sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 42sts

8 row              (6sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 48sts
9 to 15 row     48sc
16 row            (6sc, 1dec) repeat 6 times Total 30sts
17 row            (5sc, 1dec) repeat 6 times Total 30sts

18 row            (4sc, 1dec) repeat 6 times Total 30sts
19 row            (3sc, 1dec) repeat 6 times Total 24sts
20 row            (2sc, 1dec) repeat 6 times Total 18sts

• Stop here to add stuffing material before continuing to row 21.

21 row            (1sc, 1dec) repeat 6 times Total 12sts

• Cut the yarn, fasten off and hide the remaining tail inside the toy.

PAWS

With light brown yarn start,

1 row              6sc in a magic ring

2 row              6inc Total 12sts

3 row              12bpsc
4 row              12sc

• Change to orange color yarn.

5 to 7 row           12sc

• Cut the yarn, fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.

• Make four of this detail in total.

EARS

With orange color yarn start,

1 row              6sc in a magic ring

2 row              6inc Total 12sts

3 to 7 row      12sc

• Cut the yarn, fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.

• Make another one.

SNOUT

With light brown yarn chain 5. Skip the first chain and start,

1 row   (3sc, 4sc in the same chain, 2sc, 3sc in same chain Total 12sts
2 row  1inc, 3sc, 1inc, 1sc, 1inc) repeat 2 times Total 16sts
3 and 4 row   16sc

• Cut the yarn and fasten off. Leave a tail for sewing.

Snout detail

chain 5, skip the first chain and start

1 and 2 row  4sc

3 row  1sc, 1dec, 1sc Total 3sts.

• Cut the yarn, fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.

 ASSEMBLY

  1. Use pins to fasten the paws, ears and snout
  2. Start sewing the paws under the toy taking the central part as a guide to be in the middle of the four paws.
  3. Then, sew the ears in between rows 3 to 7.
  4. Sew the snout starting in row 10, going down to row 16. Add the stuffing material before finishing to sew.
  5. Sew the snout detail on top of the light brown snout.

MANE

Crochet on the surface of the lion loop stitch around the face. If you need any help on how to make this, see the video tutorial for the mane, on minute 25:58 of the video.

TAIL

In the backside of your lion, at row 14:

Attach the orange yarn in the back of the lion and chain 11

Skip the first chain and

1 row  10sc.

• Connect with a slip stitch.

• Cut the yarn and fasten off. 

Congratulations!!!
