Another curious character has arrived from Wonderland! I’m so excited to introduce the Mad Hatter! One of the most iconic and eccentric figures from the story we all love. With his oversized green hat and colorful details, he was such a fun little project to bring to life.

This is the second design in my Wonderland Collection, following the mischievous Cheshire Cat (still my favorite!). Each piece in this series is created to capture the whimsy and charm of Alice’s world, and I hope you’ll love crocheting them as much as I loved designing them.
Meet the Mad Hatter and the Wonderland Collection
This amigurumi pattern is quick, detailed, and full of character, just like the Mad Hatter himself! He’s part of the Wonderland Collection, which includes six whimsical patterns: the mischievous Cheshire Cat, the always-late White Rabbit, sweet Alice, the Queen of Hearts, and the Card Soldier (Ace of Hearts). Whether you’re adding him to your crochet crew or starting the whole set, this collection brings the story of Wonderland to life… one stitch at a time!

The finished amigurumi Mad Hatter measures approximately 5,5″ (14 cm) tall. However, the final size may vary depending on your stitch tension and the materials used.
Useful Crochet Tutorials
Before we start, I leave a link to all the stitches tutorials I used to complete this pattern. If you are a complete beginner or not familiar with some techniques, there is a blog post with step-by-step images with descriptions, and video tutorials.
Gauge
Gauge is not crucial for this pattern, so feel free to use a hook size that matches your chosen yarn. I always recommend using a slightly smaller hook to keep the stitches tight and prevent the stuffing from showing through. If needed, adjust your hook size for a neater finish.
However, if you’d like to know the gauge for my chosen yarn and materials, here it is:
With sport-weight yarn and a 2mm crochet hook, the gauge for 5 rounds (increasing to 30 stitches) measures approximately 1.6″ (4.5 cm).

Hi could I ask what base you stand your Alice in wonderland characters on please
Many thanks
Tina
Hey Tina, this stand I made together with my dad.
It is a basic round decorative circle MDF that you can find in craft stores. We painted it in black.
Then, my dad made one hole with a driller, and attach a thin nail. It sounds like a lot of work but, it’s really easy to make.
