No-sew baby octopus free amigurumi pattern

Materials:

  • 2mm crochet hook 
  • Light worsted (DK – double knitting) in 2 different colors. Cotton yarn
  • Stuffing material
  • Scissors
  • Sewing needle.
  • Embroidery thread
  • Or, you can use safety eyes! The position is at the end of this post.

Terms and abbreviations (US terms):

Single crochet (sc): insert the hook into the stitch, pull up a loop yarn over the needle, you will have two loops on the hook, yarn over the needle and pull it through the two loops.

Half double crochet (hdc): yarn over, insert your hook, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through all three loops on the hook.

Double crochet (dc): yarn over, insert your hook, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through two loops, yarn over and pull through the remaining two loops.

Increase (inc): make two single crochet inside the same stitch.

Decrease (dec): Insert hook into front loop only of next two stitches, yarn under, pull through, you will have two loops on the hook. Yarn under and pull through both loops on the hook.

OCTOPUS BODY

With blue yarn start,

1 rnd  6sc in a magic ring

2 rnd  6inc Total 12sts

3 rnd  (1sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 18sts

4 rnd  (2sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 24sts

5 rnd  (3sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 30sts

6 to 8 rnd  30sc

9 rnd  (8sc, 1dec) repeat 3 times Total 27sts

10 rnd  (7sc, 1dec) repeat 3 times Total 24sts

11 rnd  (6sc, 1dec) repeat 3 times Total 21sts

12 rnd  (5sc, 1dec) repeat 3 times Total 18sts

13 rnd  (7sc, 1dec) repeat 2 times Total 16sts

• Add stuffing material

• Change to color B

• For the next round, we will work the tentacles!

14 rnd  FL chain 13, skip the first chain, 2sc in each of the next 4 chains, 4hdc, 4dc, skip one stitch from the round, join in the FL of the stitch with a slip stitch.

• Change back to color A

15 rnd  16blsc

16 rnd  (2sc, 1dec) repeat 4 times Total 12sts

• Cut the yarn and fasten off

Face embroidering

  1. Embroider the eyes in round 8 leaving 3 stitches between them. If you are using safety eyes, attach them to this position.
  2. With a white color yarn, add a line detail on the sides of the eyes.
  3. With color contrast B, embroider its eyebrows two rounds above the eyes.
