Baby Jellyfish free amigurumi pattern

Materials:

  • 2mm crochet hook 
  • Light worsted (DK – double knitting – 6ply) in 2 different colors. Cotton yarn
  • Stuffing material
  • Scissors
  • Sewing needle.
  • Embroidery thread
  • Or, you can use safety eyes! The position is at the end of this post.

Finish size: 8cm / 3 inches

Terms and abbreviations (US terms):

Single crochet (sc): insert the hook into the stitch, pull up a loop yarn over the needle, you will have two loops on the hook, yarn over the needle and pull it through the two loops.

Half double crochet (hdc): yarn over, insert your hook, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through all three loops on the hook.

Double crochet (dc): yarn over, insert your hook, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through two loops, yarn over and pull through the remaining two loops.

Increase (inc): make two single crochet inside the same stitch.

Decrease (dec): Insert hook into front loop only of next two stitches, yarn under, pull through, you will have two loops on the hook. Yarn under and pull through both loops on the hook.

JELLYFISH BODY

With color A start,

1 rnd  6sc in a magic ring

2 rnd  6inc Total 12sts

3 rnd  (1sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 18sts

4 rnd  (2sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 24sts

5 rnd  (3sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 30sts

6 to 8 rnd  30sc

• Change to color B

• For the next round, you will work only in the front loop of the round

9 rnd    FL (skip 1, 4dc in the same st, sl) repeat 10 times

• Change to color A

• For the next round, you will work only in the back loop remaining of round 8.

10 rnd  BL 30sc

11 rnd  (3sc, 1dec) repeat 6 times Total 24sts

12 rnd  (2sc, 1dec) repeat 6 times Total 18sts

13 rnd  (1sc, 1dec) repeat 6 times Total 12sts

• For the next round, you will work only in the back loop of the round

14 rnd  12blsc

• Cut the yarn and fasten off

TENTACLES

Find the front loop of the last round, located outside of the finished jellyfish. This front loop creates a circle on the outside. There is where you will work the tentacles.

Attach color A to the first front loop of the round and start,

Note: here, you will work with both colors, A and B, alternating between them. One tentacle in color A, another one in B.

1 rnd  (chain 17, skip first chain, 16sl, join with an sl   changing to color B, chain 17, skip first chain, 16sl, join   with an sl changing to color A) repeat 6 times.

• Cut the yarn and fasten off.

FINAL DETAILS

  1. Embroider the eyes in round 6, leaving 2 stitches between them.
  2. With a piece of white color thread, embroider one line on the side of the eye.
