Leprechaun free amigurumi crochet pattern

This is a special amigurumi elf pattern highly requested by you on the YouTube channel! Special St. Patrick’s day, if somebody catches this Leprechaun, he will granted you three wishes or, give you his pot of gold!

Leprechaun amigurumi elf free crochet pattern

Materials:

  • 2mm crochet hook 
  • Three shades of green, beige, white, orange, and yellow yarn. I used 100% cotton, lightweight, 4ply.
  • Black thread for embroidering the eyes. 
  • Stuffing material
  • Scissors
  • Sewing needle.
  • Or, you can use safety eyes! The position is at the end of this post.

Finish size: 15cm or (about) 6 inches with the shamrock on his hat.

LEGS

With brown yarn start

1 rnd  6sc in a magic ring

2 rnd  (2sc, 1inc) repeat 2 times Total 8sts

• Change to white color yarn,

3 rnd  8sc

• Change to dark green color yarn,

4 rnd  8sc

• Change to white color yarn,

5 rnd  8sc

• Change to dark green color yarn,

6 and 7 rnd  8sc

• Cut the yarn, fasten it off and make another one

• Don’t cut the yarn of the second leg, chain 2, and continue working the body.

• Connect the two legs by inserting the loop of the needle inside one stitch of the first leg, following,

8 rnd  20sc (2sts from the chains, 8sts from the leg, 2sts   from the other side of the chain and 8sts from the   other leg)

9 rnd  (4sc, 1inc) repeat 4 times Total 24sts

10 rnd  24sc

• Change to brown yarn,

11 rnd  24blsl

12 rnd  24blsc

• Change to light green,

13 rnd  24blsl

14 rnd  24blsc

15 rnd  (2sc, 1dec) repeat 6 times Total 18sts

16 and 17 rnd  18sc

18 rnd  (1sc, 1dec) repeat 6 times Total 12sts

• Change to beige

19 rnd  12blsl

• Start adding stuffing material before continuing to the next round.

• For the next round, you will work in the remaining front loop only, of the previous round (the front loop in dark green color)

20 rnd  FL 12inc total 24sts

21 rnd  (1sc, 1inc) repeat 12 times Total 36sts

22 rnd  (5sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 42sts

23 rnd  (6sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 48sts

24 to 30 rnd  48sc

31 rnd  (6sc, 1dec) repeat 6 times Total 42sts

32 rnd  (5sc, 1dec) repeat 6 times Total 36sts

33 rnd  (4sc, 1dec) repeat 6 times Total 30sts

34 rnd  (3sc, 1dec) repeat 6 times Total 24sts

• Stop here for adding stuffing material before continuing to round 35.

36 rnd  (1sc, 1dec) repeat 6 times Total 12sts

• Cut the yarn and fasten it off.

ARMS

With beige,

1 rnd  6sc in a magic ring

2 rnd  6sc

• Change to dark green color

3 rnd  6blsl

4 rnd  6blsc

5 to 7 rnd  6sc

8 rnd  3sc (crochet one side to another, closing the arm)

• Cut the yarn and fasten it off.

• Make another one following the same instructions.

JACKET

With dark green, chain 21. Skip the first chain and start

1 row  20sc, chain 1, turn

2 to 5 row  repeat row 1

6 row  2sc, 3sc with the arm, 10sc, 3sc with the other   arm, 2sc

• Now, crochet a contour around the jacket.

Chain 1, 2dc in the first st, turn the work and continue crocheting on the side 3sc, 2sc in the corner, 18sc, 2sc in the corner, 3sc in the other side, chain 1, 2dc, 18sc.

• Place it around his body and sew it.

HAT

With dark green yarn start,

1 rnd  6sc in a magic ring

2 rnd  6inc Total 12sts

3 rnd  12inc Total 24sts

4 rnd  (1sc, 1inc) repeat 12 times Total 36sts

5 rnd  (5sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 42sts

6 rnd  (6sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 48sts

8 to 10 rnd  48sc

• Change to brown color yarn

12 rnd  42blsl

14 rnd  (5sc, 1dec) repeat 6 times total 36sts

• Change back to dark green

15 rnd  36blsl

• For the next round, you will work only in the front loop of the stitch.

16 rnd  FL(3sc, 1inc) repeat 9 times Total 45sts

17 rnd  (4sc, 1inc) repeat 9 times Total 54sts

18 rnd  (5sc, 1inc) repeat 9 times, sl Total 63sts

• Cut the yarn and fasten it off.

• Leave a tail for sewing it.

BEARD

With with orange yarn,

1 rnd  6sc in a magic ring

2 rnd  6sc

3 rnd   6inc total 12sts

4 and 5 rnd  12sc

6 rnd   (1sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 18sts

7 rnd   (2sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 24sts

8 rnd   (3sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 30sts

9 rnd  30sc

10 rnd  15sc crocheting the sides together, closing the beard

• Cut the yarn and fasten it off.

• Leave a tail for sewing it.

HAIR

With with orange yarn,

1 rnd  6sc in a magic ring

2 rnd   6inc total 12sts

3 rnd   (1sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 18sts

4 rnd   (2sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 24sts

5 rnd   (3sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 30sts

6 rnd   (4sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 36sts

7 rnd   (5sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 42sts

8 rnd   (6sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 48sts

9 to 12 rnd  48sc

13 rnd  15sc, (chain 5, skip first chain, 4sc), 18sc 

• Cut the yarn and fasten it off.

• Leave a tail for sewing it.

EARS

With beige yarn chain 4. Skip the first chain and start,

1 row  1sl, 1hdc, 1dc

• Cut the yarn and fasten it off. Leave a tail for sewing.

• Make another one following the same instructions

SHAMROCK

With green yarn, in a magic ring start,

1 rnd  chain 2, 2hdc, 2sc, chain 1, 1hdc, chain 1, 2sc, 2hdc,   chain 2, join with a sl.

• Cut the yarn and fasten it off. Make three of this detail.

• This little leave has the shape of a tiny heart. Now, sew the two stitches on the tip of the heart together, creating the shamrock shape.

• With the leftover of the sewing tail, make 7 chains. Sew it on the side of the hat.

ASSEMBLY

  1. Sew the beard between rounds 24 and 25.
  2. Place the hair on top of his head, leaving 7 rounds distance from the beard and two remaining rounds on the back of his head, and sew it all around. Connect the beard and the hair with the two strings of hair you worked on in the last round of the hair.
  3. Sew the ears beside the strings of hair that connects with the beard.
  4. Embroider the eyes three rounds above the beard leaving 4 stitches between them.
  5. With orange yarn, embroider the eyeshadow one round above the eyes taking 1 stitch in length.
  6. Sew the hat on the top of his head.
  7. With yellow yarn, embroider the belt detail and the hat detail.
