In this blog post, I share this super happy Hippo amigurumi teether crochet pattern. It is a simple pattern for a newborn crochet toy , suitable for amigurumi beginners and, is fast to crochet! So if you are looking for a fast crochet project for a baby shower gift, this is the right one for you!

Chubby Elephant free amigurumi pattern
Materials:
- 2mm crochet hook
- Light worsted (or DK) yarn color of you preference (I used merino wool for this pattern)
- Black thread for embroidering the eyes.
- Stuffing material
- Scissors
- Sewing needle.
- Or, you can use safety eyes! The position is at the end of this post.

With the color of your choice start,
1 round 5sc in a magic ring
2 round 5inc Total 10sts
3 round 10bpsc
4 to 11 round 10sc
12 round (1sc, 1inc) repeat 5 times Total 15sts
13 round (4sc, 1inc) repeat 3 times Total 18sts
• Cut the yarn and fasten off. Leave on the side for now.
BODY
With light blue yarn start,
1 round 6sc in a magic ring
2 round 6inc Total 12sts
3 round (1sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 18sts
4 round (2sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 24sts
5 round (3sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 30sts
6 round (4sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 46sts
7 round (5sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 42sts
8 round (6sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 48sts
9 to 13 round 48sc
14 round 15sc, 9sc connecting with 9 stitches from the trunk, 15sc
15 round 15sc, 9sc connecting with the remaining stitches from the trunk, 15sc

17 round (6sc, 1dec) repeat 6 times Total 42sts
18 round (5sc, 1dec) repeat 6 times Total 36sts

• Stop here to add stuffing material before moving to round 23.

• Cut the yarn, fasten off and hide the remaining tail inside the toy
EARS
1 round 6sc in a magic ring
2 round 6inc Total 12sts
3 round (1sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 18sts
4 round (2sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 24sts
5 round (3sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 30sts
6 round (4sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 36sts
• Cut the yarn, fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.
• Make another one!
PAWS
1 round 6sc in a magic ring
2 round 6inc Total 12sts
3 round 12bpsc
4 round 12sc
5 to 8 round 12sc
• Cut the yarn, fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.
• Make four of this detail in total.
ASSEMBLY
- Sew the ears between rows 21 and 22 of the head.
- Embroider the eyes in round 16. Leave 6 stitches between them.
- Attach the yarn in the central part of the backside of the Elephant, in row number 10. Chain 5. Cut the yarn and fasten off.
