In this blog post, I share this super happy Hippo amigurumi teether crochet pattern. It is a simple pattern for a newborn crochet toy , suitable for amigurumi beginners and, is fast to crochet! So if you are looking for a fast crochet project for a baby shower gift, this is the right one for you!

Bear security blanket free amigurumi pattern
Materials:
- 4mm crochet hook for the bear
- 5.5mm crochet hook for the blanket
- Worsted (or DK) yarn color of you preference (I used light and dark brown for this pattern)
- Black thread for embroidering the eyes.
- Stuffing material
- Scissors
- Sewing needle.
- Or, you can use safety eyes! The position is at the end of this post.
Blanket gauge: 5x5cm = 5sts x 5rows

BEAR HEAD
With light brown yarn start,
1 round 6sc in a magic ring
2 round 6inc Total 12sts
3 round (1sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 18sts
4 round (2sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 24sts
5 round (3sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 30sts
6 round (4sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 46sts
7 round (5sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 42sts
8 round (6sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 48sts
9 to 16 round 48sc
17 round (6sc, 1dec) repeat 6 times Total 42sts
18 round (5sc, 1dec) repeat 6 times Total 36sts
19 round (4sc, 1dec) repeat 6 times Total 30sts
20 round (8sc, 1dec) repeat 3 times Total 24sts

• Stop here to add stuffing material before moving to round 23.

• Cut the yarn, fasten off and hide the remaining tail inside the toy
EARS
1 round 6sc in a magic ring
2 round 6inc Total 12sts
3 round (1sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 18sts
4 to 6 round 18sc
• Cut the yarn, fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.
• Make another one!
• For the snout, follow the same instructions until round 4.
ARMS
1 round 5sc in a magic ring
2 round 5inc Total 1sts
3 round (1sc, 1inc) repeat 5 times Total 15sts
4 to 12 round 12sc
13 round (1sc, 1dec) repeat times Total 10sts
14 round 10sc
15 round 4sc connecting one side to another.
NOTE: Here, one stitch will be left on each edge (min 27:05 of the video tutorial).
• Cut the yarn, fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.
• Make four of this detail in total.
ASSEMBLY
- Sew the ears between rounds 3 and 10 of the head.
- Embroider the eyes in round 9. Leave 7 stitches between them.
- Sew the snout between rounds 10 and 17. With dark brown, embroider the nose by making a triangle and horizontal lines to cover the inside of the triangle.
- Sew the arms in the central part of the finished off head (min 30:50 of the video tutorial).

Blanket
Stitches/abbreviations
SC – SINGLE CROCHET: Insert your hook, pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through two loops.
HHDC – HERRINGBONE HALF DOUBLE CROCHET : yarn over, insert your hook, pull up a loop and pull directly through first loop on thehook. Then yarn over again, pull through remaining two loops.
BO – DOUBLE CROCHET 5 TOGETHER BOBBLE (DC5TOG): yarn over, insert your hook and pull up a loop. Yarn over and pull through two loops. *Yarn over, insert your hook into the same space and pull up a loop. Yarn over and pull through two loops. Repeat from *to* four more times. Then yarn over, and pull through all six loops on your hook. If needed, use your fingers to push the bobble towards the rights side and give make it a better round shape.
BLANKET
Chain 38
Start crocheting in the third chain from the hook,
1 to 3 row 36HHDC, chain 2 and turn
NOTE: the 2 chains at the end of each row does not count as a stitch.
4 row 4HHDC, 1BO, (8HHDC, 1BO) repeat 3 times, 4HHDC
NOTE: for row 4, introduce the brown color at the end of the fourth stitch. This brown color, you will carry along in this row, and fasten off at the last BO of the row. For every row that works with the BO stitch, you should add the brown color and fasten it off at the end of the row.
• Repeat rows 1 to 4 for 6 more times.
29 to 31 row 36HHDC, chain 2 and turn
In the last stitch of row 31, change the color for dark brown, chain 1, and start working the contour.
• Make 35 single crochet on the side of the blanket and, in the last stitch before the corner, make 2 single crochet inside the same space, chain 2 and move on to the next side.
• Make 35 single crochet again and, when you reach the last stitch, make 2 single crochet inside the same space, chain 2 and move on Repeat, making 35 single crochet, and 2 single crochet at the corner. Chain two and join with a slip stitch once you reach the beginning of the contouring.
ASSEMBLY
- Sew the amigurumi as your preference.
- For this blanket, I sew it in the central pater of the blanket.
- You can do it like that or in the corners of the blanket, as you wish!
