There’s a new waddler in town, and he’s bringing some serious charm to the No-Sew Little Crochet Farm! Meet the No-Sew Mallard Duck crochet pattern, a dapper little guy with his signature green head and the softest squishy belly. Designing him was a bit of a balancing act (those little wings had a mind of their own!), but once the final stitches were in place, I couldn’t stop smiling. He’s the perfect mix of goofy and adorable, and now I can’t imagine the farm without him!

The ad-free PDF includes two versions: one with detailed instructions and step-by-step photos, and another print-friendly text-only.
Materials:
- 6mm crochet hooks,
- Super Bulky chenille yarn. I used Hobbii Snuggle Baby in dark green, white, brown, and dark yellow.
- Black and white sports-weight yarn to embroider the eyes,
- Sewing needle,
- Stuffing material hypoallergenic polyester,
- Scissors
Finished Size
The finished amigurumi duck measures approximately 6.5″ (17 cm) tall. However, the final size may vary depending on your stitch tension and the materials used.
Gauge
Gauge is not crucial for this pattern, so feel free to use a hook size that matches your chosen yarn. I always recommend using a slightly smaller hook to keep the stitches tight and prevent the stuffing from showing through. If needed, adjust your hook size for a neater finish.
However, if you’d like to know the gauge for my chosen yarn and materials, here it is:
With super bulky-weight chenille yarn and a 6mm crochet hook, the gauge for 4 rounds (increasing to 24 stitches) measures approximately 2.5″ (5 cm).
Useful Crochet Tutorials
Before we start, I leave a link to all the stitches tutorials I used to complete this pattern. If you are a complete beginner or not familiar with some techniques, there is a blog post with step-by-step images with descriptions, and video tutorials.
Terms and abbreviations (US terms):
Slip stitch (sl): insert the hook into the stitch and pull up a loop, now, pull it through the loop on your needle.
Single crochet (sc): insert the hook into the stitch, and pull up a loop yarn over the needle, you will have two loops on the hook, yarn over the needle, and pull it through the two loops.
Half double Crochet (hdc): yarn over the needle, insert the hook into the stitch, pull up a loop, yarn over the needle, and pull inside all loops on the needle.
Double Crochet (dc): yarn over the needle, insert the hook into the stitch, pull up a loop, yarn over the needle, pull through the first two loops of your needle, yarn over the needle, inside all loops on the needle.
Treble Crochet (tr): yarn over the needle twice, insert the hook into the stitch, pull up a loop, yarn over the needle, pull through the first two loops on your needle, yarn over the needle again, pull through the next two loops, yarn over once more, and pull through the last two loops on your needle.
Increase (inc): make two single crochet stitches inside the same stitch.
Decrease (dec): Insert the hook into the front loop only of the next two stitches, yarn under, and pull through, you will have two loops on the hook. Yarn under and pull through both loops on the hook.
Especial Stitches
Bobble stitch (BO): Yarn over, insert your hook into the stitch and pull up a loop. Yarn over and pull through two loops (like starting a double crochet). Repeat this process five times in the same stitch, so you will have 6 loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through all 6 loops. Gently tug the stitch to pop the bobble outward.

No-sew Mallard Duck Pattern Instructions
Head

1 rnd 6sc in a magic ring
2 rnd 6inc Total 12sts
3 rnd (1sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 18sts
4 rnd (2sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 24sts
5 rnd (3sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 30sts
6-9 rnd 30sc
10 rnd (3sc, 1dec) repeat 6 times Total 24sts
11 rnd (2sc, 1dec) repeat 6 times Total 18sts
12 rnd 18blsl
- Stop to start adding stuffing material before continuing.
- Change to white yarn. Cut and fasten off the green.
Body
- For the next round, you will work taking the remaining front loop of round 11. Making round 12 to be hiding inside the toy
13 rnd 18Flsc

14 rnd 18sc
- Change to brown yarn. Cut and fasten off the white.
- Before we continue, we will crochet the chains to extend the body and form the tail.
- Chain 4, skip the first chain, and make 3 single crochets. Join with a single crochet into the last stitch of round 14.
- For round 15, skip the first stitch (since you already joined with a single crochet, this acts as an increase), and begin working in the second stitch of round 15 as follows:
15 rnd (3sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 30sts
Note: You will now be working around the chains you just made, completing the round.

16 – 18 rnd 30sc
- For the next round, you will work the Bobble stitch in dark yellow, crocheting through the front loop only. The single crochets should be made as usual, inserting the hook through both loops of the stitch.
- If your starting stitch is positioned differently than mine, the little paws might not be centered. In that case, to ensure proper alignment, identify the 6 central stitches on the duck’s body; this should be the gap between the two paws. Adjust round 19 accordingly to maintain symmetry.
19 rnd 13sc, 1flbo, 6sc, 1flbo, 9sc

- Cut the dark yellow yarn and fasten it off.
- Continue working with only brown yarn.
20 rnd (1sc, 1dec) repeat 10 times Total 20sts
21 rnd (3sc, 1dec) repeat 4 times Total 18sts
- Stop here to finish adding stuffing material.
22 rnd 1sc, [(2sc, 1dec) repeat 2 times], 1sc, [(2sc, 1dec) repeat 2 times] Total 12sts
- Cut the yarn and fasten it off.
Wings
The distance between one ear and the other should be about 5 stitches apart.
Left Wing:
With the duck facing your left hand, attach the brown yarn between rounds 14 and 15 of the body. Find the 3 stitches that align behind the feet. Introduce the needle and brown yarn in the last of these 3 stitches and start crocheting going forward from there.
Chain 2, 3dc, chain 2.
- Cut the yarn and fasten it off.

Right Wing:
Now, turn the duck to face your right hand. Attach the brown yarn between rounds 14 and 15. Find the 3 stitches that align behind the feet. Introduce the needle and brown yarn in the first of these 3 stitches and start crocheting, going backwards from there.
Chain 2, 3dc, chain 2.
- Cut the yarn and fasten it off.
Beak
Find the 3 central stitches of the face between rounds 8 and 9. Introduce the needle and dark yellow yarn and start crocheting:
Chain 2, 3 hdc, chain 2
• Cut the yarn and fasten it off.
Feather Tuft
With green yarn, introduce the needle at the top of the duck’s head and chain 4. Skip the first chain and make 3 slip stitches. Join with a slip stitch anywhere on the top of the head. Repeat this process 2 more times until you have 3 feather strands on top. Cut the yarn and fasten it off.

Assembly
- With black thread, embroider the eyes in round 8, at the edges of the beak.
- With the same thread, embroider two lines for the eyebrows, two rounds above the eyes, each 2 stitches long.
- With white thread, embroider the outline of the eyes.

FAQ – No-Sew Crochet Duck Pattern
Yes, absolutely! You are welcome to sell finished items made from this pattern. I would ask if possible to credit Little Crochet Farm as the designer. A link back is always appreciated if you sell online.
This no-sew Duck is designed with no hard pieces, making it a soft and cuddly toy. But always supervise playtime and make sure to use baby-safe materials if you’re gifting it to little ones. Especially if you are using safety plastic eyes!
Definitely! I used chenille yarn for mine, but you can absolutely use cotton yarn, velvet yarn, or acrylic yarn if you’d like a different texture. Just keep in mind that the look and feel will change depending on the yarn you choose. And remember to adjust the needle to the yarn weight.
Yes, you can! Using a larger hook (and matching yarn weight) will make your finished duck bigger and softer. Just make sure your stitches are tight enough so the stuffing doesn’t show through.

THANK YOU for all your wonderful PATTERNS. I read you every day and I KNIT and crochet all you send. I am from Montréal and I find you so sweat.
Hey Lise! I am so happy to read your comment! Thank you for the kind words!
I can not understand round 15. Help!
Hey Sue!
Work on round 15 normally, as you would in any round, except you “jump” the first stitch of the round. Ignore its existence! LOL.
And you will work around the “little tail” we just created, to extend the body!
I hope that helps!
