First pattern of the year comes full of love! And is the first of five patterns for the Valentines.

Chubby Valentine Cat free amigurumi pattern

Materials:

• 2mm crochet hook 
• Three colors of your choice of fingering cotton yarn. I used two shades of yellow and red for heart, and two shades of gray for the other!
• Black thread for embroidering the eyes. 
• Stuffing material
• Scissors
• Sewing needle.
• Or, you can use safety eyes! The position is at the end of this post.

CAT BODY

With color A chain 6, skip the first chain and start,

1 rnd  4sc, 4sc in same stitch (turning the foundation chain   clockwise and continuing working on the other side of the chain) 3sc, 3sc in the last stitch. Total 14sts

2 rnd  (1inc, 4sc, 1inc, 1sc) repeat 2 times Total 18sts

3 rnd  (1inc, 5sc, 1inc, 2sc) repeat 2 times Total 22sts

4 rnd  (1inc, 7sc, 1inc, 2sc) repeat 2 times Total 26sts

5 rnd  (1inc, 9sc, 1inc, 2sc) repeat 2 times Total 30sts

6 rnd  (4sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 36sts

7 rnd  36sc

8 rnd  (5sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 42sts

• Change to color B,

12 to 21 rnd  48sc

• Stop here for stuffing the cat,

• Cut the yarn, fasten it off and hide the remaining tail inside the cat.

BACK PAW

With color B start,

1 rnd  6sc in a magic ring

2 rnd  6inc Total 12sts

• Change to color A,

3 and 4 rnd  12sc

• Change to color B,

5 to 7 rnd  12sc

• Change to color A,

8 and 9 rnd  12sc

• Change to color B,

10 rnd  6sc crocheting the two sides together

• Cut the yarn, fasten it off and make another one following the same instructions.

• Leave a tail for sewing it.

FRONT PAW

With color B start,

1 rnd  5sc in a magic ring

2 rnd  5inc Total 10sts

• Change to color A,

3 and 4 rnd  10sc

• Change to color B,

5 to 7 rnd  10sc

• Change to color A,

8 and 9 rnd  10sc

• Change to color B,

10 rnd  5sc crocheting the two sides together

• Cut the yarn, fasten it off and make another one following the same instructions.

• Leave a tail for sewing it.

EARS

With color A start,

1 rnd  4sc in a magic ring

2 rnd  (1inc, 1sc) repeat 2 times Total 6sts

3 rnd  (1inc, 2sc) repeat 2 times Total 8sts

4 rnd  (1inc, 3sc) repeat 2 times Total 10sts

5 rnd  (1inc, 4sc) repeat 2 times Total 12sts

6 rnd  (1inc, 5sc) repeat 2 times Total 14sts

7 rnd  (1inc, 6sc) repeat 2 times Total 16sts

• Cut the yarn and fasten it off.

• Make another one with color B.

TAIL

With color  A start,

1 rnd  6sc in a magic ring

2 and 3 rnd  6sc

• Change to color B,

4 and 5 rnd  6sc

• Change back to color A,

6 to 8 rnd  6sc

• Repeat rounds 4 to 8 two times.

• For the last round, instead of working 6sc, work 3sc following:

18 rnd  3sc crocheting the sides together, closing the tail.

• Cut the yarn, fasten it off, and leave a small tail for sewing.

HEART

With brown color yarn start,

1 rnd  6sc in a magic ring

2 rnd  6inc Total 12sts

3 rnd  12sc

• Cut the yarn and fasten it off.

• Make another one following the same instructions.

• Don’t cut the yarn of the second detail. Instead, crochet together with the previously finished detail.

4 rnd   24sc (12 from one finished detail plus 12 of the one you were working on it)

5 rnd  24sc

6 rnd  (10sc, 1dec) repeat 2 times Total 22sts

7 rnd  (9sc, 1dec) repeat 2 times Total 20sts

8 rnd  (8sc, 1dec) repeat 2 times Total 18sts

9 rnd  (7sc, 1dec) repeat 2 times Total 16sts

10 rnd  (6sc, 1dec) repeat 2 times Total 14sts

• Stop here for stuffing the heart,

11 rnd  (5sc, 1dec) repeat 2 times Total 12sts

12 rnd  6dec Total 6sts

• Cut the yarn, fasten it off and hide the remaining tail inside the heart.

ASSEMBLY

1. With the help of pins, fasten the front paws between rounds 6 and 10. Sew them.
2. Sew the back paws under the front paws.
3. Place the ears on top of the cat head, and sew it between rounds 1 to 5.
4. Sew the tail on the back of the cat, sideways, closer to the paws.
5. Sew the heart between the cat’s paws.
6. Embroider the eyes at round 6, leaving 4 stitches between them.
7. Embroider the snout one round under the eyes.
8. Make three lines on the cheeks for the whiskers.
9. Embroider the eyebrow one round above the eyes, with a length of one stitch.
10. Optional: use a piece of white color yarn to brighten the eyes. Make one small line on the outside corner of the eye.
