Little Puppy amigurumi free pattern

Materials:

  • 2mm crochet hook 
  • Two colors of yarn. I used 100% cotton, lightweight, 4ply.
  • Black thread for embroidering the eyes. 
  • Stuffing material
  • Scissors
  • Sewing needle.
  • Or, you can use safety eyes! The position is at the end of this post.

Finish size: 6cm or (about) 2,5 inches

Terms and abbreviations (US terms):

Single crochet (sc): insert the hook into the stitch, pull up a loop yarn over the needle, you will have two loops on the hook, yarn over the needle, and pull it through the two loops.

Increase (inc): make two single crochet inside the same stitch.

Decrease (dec): Insert hook into front loop only of next two stitches, yarn under, pull through, you will have two loops on the hook. Yarn under and pull through both loops on the hook.

Back loop Slip stitch (blsl): Insert hook into the back loop only of the stitch, yarn under, pull through both stitch and loop on hook.

HEAD and BODY

With the main color yarn start,

1 rnd  6sc in a magic ring

2 rnd  6inc Total 12sts

3 rnd  (1sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 18sts

4 rnd  (2sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 24sts

5 rnd  (3sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 30sts

6 to 11rnd  30sc

12 rnd  (1sc, 1dec, 1dec) repeat 6 times Total 18sts

13 rnd  18blsl

• For the next round, you will work in the remaining front loop of round 12.

14 rnd  FL(2sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 24sts

15 to 18 rnd  24sc

• For the next round, you will work in the back loop only.

19 rnd  BL(2sc, 1dec) repeat 6 times Total 18sts

20 rnd  (1sc, 1dec) repeat 6 times Total 12sts

• Cut the yarn, fasten it off and hide the remaining tail inside the toy.

FRONT PAW

With the contrast color yarn start,

1 rnd  6sc in a magic ring

2 to 4 rnd  6sc

5 rnd  3sc crocheting the sides together, closing the paw.

• Cut the yarn, fasten it off and leave a tail for sewing it.

• Make another one following the same instructions.

BACK PAW

With the contrast color yarn start,

1 rnd  6sc in a magic ring

2 rnd  6inc Total 12sts

3 to 5 rnd    12sc

6 rnd  6sc crocheting the sides together, closing the paw.

• Cut the yarn, fasten it off, and leave a tail for sewing it.

• Make another one following the same instructions.

TAIL

With the contrast color yarn chain 5. Skip the first chain and start,

1 row  4sc 

• Cut the yarn and fasten it off. Leave a small tail for sewing it later.

EARS

With the contrast color yarn white start,

1 rnd    6sc in a magic ring

2 rnd    6sc

3 rnd    6inc Total 12sts

4 and 5 rnd  12sc

6 rnd  4sc crocheting the sides together, closing the ear.

• Cut the yarn, fasten it off and leave a tail for sewing it.

• Make another one following the same instructions

ASSEMBLY

  1. Use pins to fasten the back paws under the puppy’s body. Sew it under the puppy.
  2. Sew the arms taking 3 rounds from the body. Starting in round 14 and finishing in round 16.
  3. Sew the ears in round 3 of the head, taking 6 stitches in length.
  4. With a black thread, embroider the eyes in round 8 leaving 4 stitches between them.
  5. Embroider the eyebrow one round above the eyes with the length of 1 stitch.
  6. With brown yarn, embroider the nose 1 round under the yes.

  1. Thank you – will this pattern work using regular size yarn? This is pretty small for me to maneuver – but think it might work the same with any size yarn?
    And congratulations on your little girl – I bet she will be swinging a hook in no time. And also, do you have a tutorial on embroider eyes & nose – I am still trying to learn that – thank you and happy day

    • Hello Nancy! Thank you for the kind words! I will teach my little girl all about handmade items! And for now, I will snuggle her as much as possible!
      About the yarn, you can follow the same pattern and just adjust the yarn weight and needle sizes to suit your needs! The result will be a bigger amigurumi! For example, you can go for a DK yarn and work with a 3mm hook or a worst yarn and a maybe 4mm hook. Remember to grab a smaller needle than the size the yarn weight refers to. That is because, for amigurumi, we want the stitches to be very tight.
      I’ll keep in mind to shoot a tutorial only about embroidering the facial features! Thank you for the suggestion!
