Giraffe crochet free pattern

Sharing this special collection with you, the Safari crochet animals! This collection was created especially for my baby girl, with the help of you, readers from Little Crochet Farm. A while back, I asked about which collection should I create for her, and the majority of you voted for a Safari crochet Animals!

Today I share with you this beautiful Giraffe amigurumi! One more free amigurumi pattern for the Safari Animals! The collection has 12 crochet animals that slowly will start coming out online! I hope you have some fun crocheting these animals!

Giraffe free crochet pattern

Materials:

  • 2mm crochet hook 
  • Yellow, brown, and a little bit of pink for the cheek. I used 100% cotton, lightweight, 4ply.
  • Black thread for embroidering the eyes. 
  • Stuffing material
  • Scissors
  • Sewing needle.
  • Or, you can use safety eyes! The position is at the end of this post.

Finish size: 18cm or (about) 7 inches.

BODY

With yellow yarn start,

1 rnd  6sc in a magic ring

2 rnd  6inc Total 12sts

3 rnd  (1sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 18sts

4 rnd  (2sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 24sts

5 rnd  (3sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 30sts

6 rnd  (4sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 36sts

7 rnd  (5sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 42sts

8 rnd  (6sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 48sts

9 to 12 rnd  48sc

HEAD

With yellow yarn start,

• Cut the yarn and fasten if off. Leave a long tail for sewing later.

• Add stuffing material.

PAWS

With brown start,

1 rnd  6sc in a magic ring

2 rnd  6inc Total 12sts

3 rnd  (1sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 18sts

4 and 5 rnd  18sc

6 rnd  (1sc, 1dec) repeat 6 times Total 12sts

7 to 15 rnd  12sc

• Add stuffing material until half of the paws before continuing to round 16

16 rnd  6sc crocheting the sides together, closing the paw.

• Cut the yarn and fasten it off.

• Make four in total following the same instructions.

• Leave a small tail for sewing it.

SNOUT

With brown start,

1 rnd  6sc in a magic ring

2 rnd  6inc Total 12sts

3 rnd  (3inc, 3sc) repeat 2 times Total 18sts

*3inc meaning two single crochet in the same stitch in the next 3 stitches.

4 and 5 rnd  18sc

• Cut the yarn, fasten it off and leave a tail for sewing it.

ANTENNAS

With brown yarn start,

1 rnd  6sc in a magic ring

2 rnd  (1sc, 1inc) repeat 3 times Total 9sts

3 rnd  9sc

4 rnd  (1sc, 1dec) repeat 3 times Total 6sts

• Change to yellow color

5 to 7 rnd  6sc

• Cut the yarn and fasten it off. Leave a small tail for sewing.

• Make another one following the same instructions.

• Don’t need to add stuffing material here.

EARS

With yellow yarn start,

1 rnd  4sc in a magic ring

2 rnd  4sc

3 rnd  4inc Total 8sts

4 rnd  8sc

5 rnd  (1sc, 1inc) repeat 4 times Total 12sts

6 rnd  12sc

7 rnd  6dec Total 6sts

8 and 9 rnd  6sc

• Cut the yarn and fasten it off. Leave a small tail for sewing.

• Make another one following the same instructions.

• Don’t need to add stuffing material here.

TAIL

With yellow yarn chain 7. Skip the first chain and start,

1 row  6hdc

• Cut the yarn and fasten it off. Leave a tail for sewing.

• Cut 2 pieces with 3cm (1inch) length and attach it on the first stitch of the tail (opposite to where you left the small piece of yellow yarn for sewing)

• With a sewing needle, open the strings of the brown yarn to make it fussy.

BODY DOTS

With brown start,

1 rnd  6sc in a magic ring

2 rnd  6inc Total 12sts

• Join with a slip stitch in the first stitch of the round.

• Cut the yarn and fasten it off. Leave a tail for sewing later.

• Make three in total.

With brown start,

1 rnd  8sc in a magic ring

• Join with a slip stitch in the first stitch of the round.

• Cut the yarn and fasten it off. Leave a tail for sewing later.

• Make nine in total.

ASSEMBLY

  1. Introduce two rounds of the body inside the head. Sew the head taking the body’s second round (counting from top to bottom).
  1. Sew the top paws in the first round of the body, leaving 6 stitches between one to another.
  2. Sew the down paws in round 10 of the body, leaving 14 stitches between one to another.
  3. Sew the snout between rounds 12 and 20 of the head. Before finishing sewing the snout, add stuffing material inside and continue sewing to completely close it.
  4. Sew the antennas between rounds 2 and 3 of the head and the ears 3 rounds under the antennas.
  5. With an embroidering needle, embroider the eyes in round 11 of the head (or one round above the snout) leaving 4 stitches between them.
  6. With the same thread, embroider the eye brow 3 rounds above the eyes. Optional: with a light pink yarn make one little straight line on the cheeks.
  7. Sew the dots on its body. I sew 3 little dots one big in the front part of the body, 2 little ones, and 1 big in the back of the body. Two small ones on the face, and 2 small ones and 1 big ones on the back of the head.
  8. Sew the tail in round 10 of the body.
