Materials:

  • 2mm crochet hook
  • Two colors of yarn for the lam, and two for the egg. I used 100% cotton, lightweight, 4ply.
  • Black thread for embroidering the eyes.
  • Stuffing material
  • Scissors
  • Sewing needle.
  • Or, you can use safety eyes! The position is at the end of this post.

Finish size

The finished crochet piece is about 2.3 inches (6 cm) for the lamb and 3.6 inches (9 cm) for the Easter egg. However, the final size may vary depending on your stitch tension and the materials used.

Useful Crochet Tutorials

Before we start, I leave a link to all the stitches tutorials I used to complete this pattern. If you are a complete beginner or not familiar with some techniques, there is a blog post with step-by-step images with descriptions and video tutorials.

Gauge

Gauge is not crucial for this pattern, so feel free to use a hook size that matches your chosen yarn. I always recommend using a slightly smaller hook to keep the stitches tight and prevent the stuffing from showing through. If needed, adjust your hook size for a neater finish.

However, if you’d like to know the gauge for my chosen yarn and materials, here it is:
With sport-weight yarn and a 2mm crochet hook, the gauge for 5 rounds (increasing to 30 stitches) measures approximately 1.6″ (4.5 cm).

• Don’t cut the yarn, instead, crochet together with the bottom part following:

Here, you will grab only the back loop of one stitch of the finished bottom part of the egg and the back loop of the top part of the shell, which is the one you are currently working with.

  • 8blsc crocheting together the top shell with the bottom.

NOTE: pay attention here that the back loop of the stitch from the bottom part of the shell is facing you (making it look like the “front loop“. But it’s just because of the position of the shell. The back loop should be facing inside the shell.

  • Cut the yarn and fasten it off.
  • Now, you have two options. Either add little buttons to be the opening and closing of the egg or, as I did, crochet the buttons by doing 7sc inside a magic ring, and joining with an sl.
  • Sew the buttons on round 9 of the bottom of the shell leaving 6 stitches between them.
  • Attach two pieces of yarn to close the shell in round 16 of the top shell.
