Snowy Owl Free crochet pattern
Materials:
- 8mm and 2mm crochet hooks,
- Chenille yarn of your preference. For this owl, I used the brand Alize Velluto colors white and gray
- Similar yarn weight and texture suggestions can be Universal Yarn and Creative World crafts.
- Black, gray, and yellow sports weight for the eyes, feet, and beak.
- Sewing needle,
- Stuffing material hypoallergenic polyester,
- Scissors
Finish size: 29cm or 11.5 inches.

Terms and abbreviations (US terms):
Single crochet (sc): insert the hook into the stitch, and pull up a loop yarn over the needle, you will have two loops on the hook, yarn over the needle, and pull it through the two loops.
Half double Crochet (hdc): yarn over the needle, insert the hook into the stitch, pull up a loop, yarn over the needle, and pull inside all loops on the needle.
Double Crochet (dc): yarn over the needle, insert the hook into the stitch, pull up a loop, yarn over the needle, pull through the first two loops on the hook, yarn over again, pull up inside both loops on the needle.
Increase (inc): make two single crochet inside the same stitch.
Decrease (dec): Insert the hook into the front loop only of the next two stitches, yarn under, and pull through, you will have two loops on the hook. Yarn under and pull through both loops on the hook.
Front loop (FL): Insert the hook into the front loop only of the stitch, and continue with the stitch written in front of the abbreviation FL.


Crochet Owl free pattern instructions
HEAD
With an 8mm hook and white yarn start,
1 rnd 6sc in a magic ring
2 rnd 6inc Total 12sts
3 rnd (1sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 18sts
4 rnd (2sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 24sts
5 rnd (3sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 30sts
6 rnd (4sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 36sts
7 to 12 rnd 36sc
13 rnd (4sc, 1dec) repeat 6 times Total 30sts
14 rnd (3sc, 1dec) repeat 6 times Total 24sts
15 rnd (2sc, 1dec) repeat 6 times Total 18sts
16 rnd 18blsl
• Add stuffing material to the head before continuing.
• For the next round you will crochet in the remaining front loop from round 15. Round 16 will be facing the inside of the toy.



17 rnd FL 18inc Total 36sts
BODY
Continue working with white,
18 to 27 rnd 36sc
28 rnd (4sc, 1dec) repeat 6 times Total 30sts
29 rnd (3sc, 1dec) repeat 6 times Total 24sts
30 rnd (2sc, 1dec) repeat 6 times Total 18sts
• Stop here to finish adding stuffing material
31 rnd (1sc, 1dec) repeat 6 times Total 12sts
• Cut the yarn and fasten it off.



FEATHER TUFT
With white yarn and 8mm hook chain 5. Skip the first chain and start,
1 row 4sl
• Repeat this same process 3 times.
• Cut the yarn and fasten off. Leave a small tail for sewing it.

WINGS
With gray yarn and 8mm hook chain 8. Skip the first chain and start,
1 row 6sc, 5sc in the last chain, continue working on the other side of the chain, 4sc. Leave the 2 sts unworked. Chain 1, turn.
2 row 5sc, 1inc, 1inc, 1inc, 7sc, chain 3, turn
3 row skip the first chain, 18sc. Leave the 2sts unworked. Chain1, turn.
4 row 4sc, 1inc, 1inc, 1inc, 11sc. Chain 3, turn.
5 row skip the first chain, 14 sc, sl.
• Cut the yarn and fasten it off.
• Make another one following the same instructions.
• Leave a small tail for sewing it later.



EYES
With a 2mm hook and black yarn start,
1 rnd 6sc in a magic ring
2 rnd 6inc Total 12sts
3 rnd (1sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 18sts

• From the next round, you will work with black and yellow colors.
4 rnd black (2sc, 1inc) repeat 2 times, yellow (2sc, 1inc) repeat 4 times Total 24sts
5 rnd black (3sc, 1inc) repeat 2 times, yellow (3sc, 1inc) repeat 4 times Total 30sts
• For the next round, switch to chenille yarn but continue using the 2mm hook. Make sure to keep your stitches loose to easily transition to the 8mm hook for round 7.
6 rnd 30sc (with 2mm hook, making loose stitches for switching to the other hook)
7 rnd 30sc (with 8mm hook)
• Cut the yarn, fasten it off, and leave a tail for sewing later.
• Make another one following the same instructions.



CLAWS
With a 2mm hook and yellow yarn, we start crocheting the nails,
1 rnd 6sc in a magic ring
2 and 3 rnd 6sc
• Change to gray yarn and continue working now the feet.
4 to 7 rnd 6sc
• Cut the yarn and fasten off after completing each nail. Make a total of three nails.
• For the third nail, do not cut the yarn. Instead, start crocheting the nails together.
• Work on 3 stitches from one side of each nail to connect them, then continue working on 3 remaining stitches from the other side of each nail, resulting in a total of 18 stitches.
8 rnd 18sc



9 to 13 rnd 18sc
14 rnd (4sc, 1dec) repeat 3 times Total 15sts
15 to 19 rnd 15sc
20 rnd (3sc, 1dec) repeat 3 times Total 12sts
21 to 26 rnd 12sc
27 rnd 6dec Total 6sts
28 to 32 rnd 6sc
• Change to yellow
33 to 35 rnd 6sc
• Cut the yarn and fasten it off.



BEAK
With yellow yarn and a 2mm hook start,
1 rnd 6sc in a magic ring
2 rnd (2sc, 1inc) repeat 2 times Total 8sts
3 rnd (3sc, 1inc) repeat 2 times Total 10sts
4 and 5 rnd 10sc
6 rnd 5sc
• Cut the yarn and fasten it off. Leave a small tail for sewing it later.


Before moving forward:
• Position the eyes between rounds 5 to 8 of the head.
• Use chenille yarn to sew the eyes onto the owl’s head. Ensure you insert the needle through the space between rounds 6 and 7, leaving the edges of the eyes slightly protruding.
LEFT BROW
Using an 8mm hook and gray yarn, insert the hook into the edge of the head, just behind the “unsown” edge of the eye. Refer to the images below for guidance. And start
Chain 2, 1dc, 1inc dc, 1hdc, 2sc
• Cut the yarn and fasten it off.
RIGHT BROW
With the 8mm hook and gray yarn, insert the hook into the center of the head, right behind the edge of the eye, working from the middle of the head toward the edge. Refer to the images below for guidance. And start,
2sc, 1hdc, 1inc dc, 1dc, chain 3
• Cut the yarn and fasten it off.



ASSEMBLY
- Sew the beak between the eyes on round 10 of the head.
- Position the wings on the owl’s body and sew only halfway down, ensuring the owl can open and close its wings. Refer to the image for guidance.
- Sew the feather tuft on top of the head, securing it inside the magic ring and the first round of the head.
- Sew the feet to the bottom of the owl’s body.
- With a piece of white yarn, embroider a small dot inside the black part of the eye.
