Crochet Mini Elf free amigurumi Christmas pattern
Materials:
- 2mm crochet hook
- White, green, brown, red and skin tone of your choice. I used 100% cotton, sports yarn.
- Black thread for embroidering the eyes. A little bit of yellow for the belt buckle.
- Stuffing material
- Scissors
- Sewing needle.
- Or, you can use safety eyes! The position is at the end of this post.
Finish size: 8cm or (about) 3 inches with the hat.

Terms and abbreviations (US terms):
Single crochet (sc): insert the hook into the stitch, pull up a loop, you will have two loops on the hook, yarn over the needle, and pull it through the two loops.
Double crochet (dc): yarn over the needle, insert the hook into the stitch, pull up a loop, you will have three loops on the hook, yarn over the needle, inside the first two loops, yarn over the needle and pull it through the two loops left on your needle.
Increase (inc): make two single crochet inside the same stitch.
Decrease (dec): Insert hook into front loop only of next two stitches, yarn under, pull through, you will have two loops on the hook. Yarn under and pull through both loops on the hook.
Back loop Slip stitch (blsl): Insert hook into the back loop only of the stitch, yarn under, pull through both stitch and loop on hook.
HEAD
With the skin tone of your choice start,
1 rnd 6sc in a magic ring
2 rnd 6inc Total 12sts
3 rnd (1sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 18sts
4 rnd (2sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 24sts
5 rnd (3sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 30sts
6 to 10 rnd 30sc
11 rnd (3sc, 1dec) repeat 6 times Total 24sts
12 rnd (2sc, 1dec) repeat 6 times Total 18sts
13 rnd (1sc, 1dec) repeat 6 times Total 12sts
• Add stuffing material to the head before continuing.
• Change to green color yarn,
14 rnd 12blsl
BODY
• For the next round you will crochet in the remaining front loop from round 13. Round 14 will be facing the inside of the toy.
15 rnd (1sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 18sts
16 rnd 18sc
17 rnd (2sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 24sts
• Change to brown and work the next 2 rounds grabbing just the back loop of the stitch
18 rnd 24blsl
19 rnd 24blsc
• Change back to green
20 rnd 24sc
• Change to white
21 rnd 24sc
• Change back to green
22 rnd 24sc
23 rnd BL(2sc, 1dec) repeat 6 times Total 18sts
• Stop here to finish adding stuffing material,
24 rnd (1sc, 1dec) repeat 6 times Total 12sts
• Place the toy upside down and attach the white yarn to the remaining front loop of round 24.
1 rnd 24sc
• Join with a slip stitch. Cut the yarn and fasten it off.
ARMS
With skin tone of your choice start,
1 rnd 6sc in a magic ring
2 rnd 6sc
• Change to white
3 rnd 6sc
• Change green
4 rnd 6sc
5 rnd 3sc crocheting the sides together, closing the arm.
• Cut the yarn, fasten it off and leave a tail for sewing later.
• Make another one following the same instructions.
HAT
With red color yarn start,
1 rnd 6sc magic ring
2 rnd 6sc
• Change to green
3 rnd 6blsl
4 rnd 6blsc
5 rnd 6sc
6 rnd (1sc, 1inc) repeat 3 times Total 9sts
7 to 9 rnd 9sc
10 rnd (2sc, 1inc) repeat 3 times Total 12sts
11 rnd 12sc
12 rnd (1sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 18sts
13 rnd (2sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 24sts
14 rnd (3sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 30sts
15 to 18 rnd 30sc
• Change back to red
19 rnd 30blsl
• For the next round, you will work with double crochet and grabbing only the front loop of the stitch. Chain 2 and start,
20 rnd FL(5dc, 1inc) repeat 5 times Total 35sts
• Join with a sl.
• Cut the yarn and fasten it off.
HAIR
Identify the 13 stitches at the front of the hat. Place markers on the first and last stitch of this section. These stitches will remain unworked. Attach brown yarn to the remaining back loop of round 19. Begin working on the other stitches of the hat, leaving the marked section unworked.
1 rnd chain 4, join with a sl repeat 22 times
• Cut the yarn and fasten it off.
COLLAR
With red color yarn chain16. Skip the first chain and start,
1 row (1sl, chain 1, 1hdc, chain 1, sl) repeat 5 times
• Cut the yarn and fasten it off.
• Leave a tail for sewing it.
EARS
With skin tone of your choice chain 3. Skip the first chain and start,
1 row 2sl
• Cut the yarn and fasten it off. Leave a small tail for sewing.
• Make another one following the same instructions.
ASSEMBLY
- Sew the arms on round 15 of the body.
- Position the collar around the neck and tie a knot at the back to secure it. You can either trim the thread for a clean finish or leave a small bow.
- Sew the hat onto the head, ensuring the 13 unworked stitches are positioned at the front and the hair, worked in the remaining 22 stitches, is at the back.
- Sew the tip of the hat down to create a folded effect.
- Embroider the eyes on round 9 of the head, leaving 4 stitches of space between them.
- With yellow yarn, embroider a square over the brown section of the body to represent the belt buckle.
- Attach the ears beneath the hat, positioning them next to the hair.
