Seeking a cozy and beginner-friendly project? This crochet llama pattern is soft, sweet, and surprisingly simple to make! While it’s technically a no-sew amigurumi, you’ll just need a few quick stitches to attach the cute tapestry and collar—easy peasy. It’s the perfect pattern if you’re a fan of plush yarns, quick projects, or just love llamas as much as I do! This llama is a fun addition to any crochet collection.

Crochet Llama Plush

This llama is designed with simplicity in mind, perfect for beginners or anyone looking for a relaxing crochet session. The body is made in one piece, so there’s no sewing required for the main shape. The only bits you’ll need to stitch on are the decorative details: a small tapestry and a soft collar. I used plush yarn for that extra squishy and fluffy feel, but you can also try it with velvet or regular yarn if you’d like. It works up quickly and is great for gifting, decorating, or just cuddling!

If you love how easy this crochet llama looks, you’ll want to explore the no-sew crochet pattern collection on Little Crochet Farm. These designs are fast, fun, and full of personality, no sewing required!

Finished Size

The finished amigurumi llama measures approximately 7.2″ (18 cm) tall. However, the final size may vary depending on your stitch tension and the materials used.

Gauge

Gauge is not crucial for this pattern, so feel free to use a hook size that matches your chosen yarn. I always recommend using a slightly smaller hook to keep the stitches tight and prevent the stuffing from showing through. If needed, adjust your hook size for a neater finish.

However, if you’d like to know the gauge for my chosen yarn and materials, here it is:
With super bulky-weight chenille yarn and a 6mm crochet hook, the gauge for 4 rounds (increasing to 24 stitches) measures approximately 2.5″ (5 cm).

Useful Crochet Tutorials

Before we start, I leave a link to all the stitches tutorials I used to complete this pattern. If you are a complete beginner or not familiar with some techniques, there is a blog post with step-by-step images with descriptions, and video tutorials.

Terms and abbreviations (US terms):

Slip stitch (sl): insert the hook into the stitch and pull up a loop, now, pull it through the loop on your needle.

Single crochet (sc): insert the hook into the stitch, and pull up a loop yarn over the needle, you will have two loops on the hook, yarn over the needle, and pull it through the two loops.

Half double crochet (hdc): yarn over the needle, insert the hook into the stitch, and pull up a loop yarn over the needle, you will have three loops on the hook, yarn over the needle, and pull it through all loops.

Loop Stitch (ls): Insert hook into stitch, wrap yarn around index finger and keep the finger at desired distance from the crochet piece; this will create the size of the loop. Bring the hook over the top strand of the loop around your finger, then catch the bottom strand of the loop to yarn over, pull through, you now have 2 loops on hook. Remove your finger and hold the loop in place. Yarn over (regularly), being careful not to pull on the loop made, pull through both loops on hook to complete the stitch.

Trebble Crochet (tc): Yarn over twice, insert your hook into the stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop (you now have four loops on the hook). Yarn over, pull through the first two loops, yarn over again, pull through the next two loops, yarn over one last time, and pull through the final two loops on the hook.

Bobble stitch (BO): Yarn over, insert your hook into the stitch and pull up a loop. Yarn over and pull through two loops (like starting a double crochet). Repeat this process five times in the same stitch, so you will have 6 loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through all 6 loops. Gently tug the stitch to pop the bobble outward.

Increase (inc): make two single crochet inside the same stitch.

Decrease (dec): Insert the hook into the front loop only of the next two stitches, yarn under, and pull through, you will have two loops on the hook. Yarn under and pull through both loops on the hook.

  • For the next round, you will work the Bobble stitch in gray, crocheting through the front loop only. The single crochet stitches should be made as usual, inserting the hook through both loops of the stitch.
  • If your starting stitch is positioned differently from mine, the little paws might not be centered. In that case, to ensure proper alignment, identify the 4 central stitches on the llama’s body, this should be the gap between the two front paws. The distance between the front and back paw should be 12 stitches. Adjust round 21 accordingly to maintain symmetry.
