The ad-free PDF includes two versions: one with detailed instructions and step-by-step photos, and another print-friendly text-only.
Materials
- 2mm crochet hooks,
- Two shades of cotton sports weight yarn and a little bit of orange for the beak
- Sewing needle,
- Stuffing material hypoallergenic polyester,
- Scissors
Finish size
The finished crochet bird amigurumi measures approximately 2.6″ (7 cm) tall. However, the final size may vary depending on your stitch tension and the materials used.
Gauge
Gauge is not crucial for this pattern, so feel free to use a hook size that matches your chosen yarn. I always recommend using a slightly smaller hook to keep the stitches tight and prevent the stuffing from showing through. If needed, adjust your hook size for a neater finish.
However, if you’d like to know the gauge for my chosen yarn and materials, here it is:
With sport-weight yarn and a 2mm crochet hook, the gauge for 5 rounds (increasing to 30 stitches) measures approximately 1.6″ (4.5 cm).
Useful Crochet Tutorials
Before we start, I leave a link to all the stitches tutorials I used to complete this pattern. If you are a complete beginner or not familiar with some techniques, there is a blog post with step-by-step images with descriptions, and video tutorials.

FAQ – Crochet Love Bird Pattern
Yes, absolutely! You are welcome to sell finished items made from this pattern. I would ask if possible to credit Little Crochet Farm as the designer. A link back is always appreciated if you sell online.
Definitely! I used sports yarn for mine, but you can absolutely use velvet yarn or acrylic yarn if you’d like a different texture. Just keep in mind that the look and feel will change depending on the yarn you choose. And remember to adjust the needle to the yarn weight.
Yes, you can! Using a larger hook (and matching yarn weight) will make your finished Bird bigger and softer. Just make sure your stitches are tight enough so the stuffing doesn’t show through.

up the beautiful work and many, many THANKS for sharing. Cecelia
Thank you Cecelia! Always my pleasure hearing from you!
Can you check 23 Rnd? 22 Rnd is 18, so I cant go to 12 with 2sc, 1 dec 6 times?
Yes Sheree!!! There was a typo there, it suppose to be (1sc, 1dec)! It is corrected now. Thank you for letting me know!
Thank you!
Hi Ana – Thank you so much for your patterns! I love these little birds but I was wondering if I can use light #3 yarn with 4mm hook size? Would I still be able to follow your pattern?
Hi Abi! Thanks so much for your message and for loving the little birds! 💛
For a light #3 yarn, I’d personally recommend using a 2.5mm or 3mm hook to keep your stitches nice and tight. But the best way to check is to crochet the first 3 rounds and see if there are any gaps or holes showing through.
You can definitely use any yarn you like and still follow the pattern easily, just adjust your hook size to make sure your stitches stay snug and tight.
I hope that helps! Happy crocheting!
It does! Thank you so much Ana!
