Materials:

Finished Size

The finished amigurumi Beer Mug crochet keychain pattern measures approximately 2.3″ (6 cm) tall. However, the final size may vary depending on your stitch tension and the materials used.

Gauge

Gauge is not crucial for this pattern, so feel free to use a hook size that matches your chosen yarn. I always recommend using a slightly smaller hook to keep the stitches tight and prevent the stuffing from showing through. If needed, adjust your hook size for a neater finish.

However, if you’d like to know the gauge for my chosen yarn and materials, here it is:
With sport-weight yarn and a 2mm crochet hook, the gauge for 5 rounds (increasing to 30 stitches) measures approximately 1.6″ (4.5 cm).

Useful Crochet Tutorials

Before we start, I leave a link to all the stitches tutorials I used to complete this pattern. If you are a complete beginner or not familiar with some techniques, there is a blog post with step-by-step images with descriptions, and video tutorials.

Terms and abbreviations (US terms):

Slip stitch (sl): insert the hook into the stitch and pull up a loop, now, pull it through the loop on your needle.

Single crochet (sc): insert the hook into the stitch, and pull up a loop yarn over the needle, you will have two loops on the hook, yarn over the needle, and pull it through the two loops.

Increase (inc): make two single crochet inside the same stitch.

Decrease (dec): Insert the hook into the front loop only of the next two stitches, yarn under, and pull through, you will have two loops on the hook. Yarn under and pull through both loops on the hook.

Beer Foam

Introduce the white yarn in the first remaining front loop of the second round of the beer top.

Make 3 chains and join with a slip stitch in the next front loop.

Repeat this process of chaining 3 and joining with a slip stitch throughout all the remaining front loops at the top of the beer.

Once you reach the last round with front loops (round 6), make 8 chains in one of the stitches and join with a slip stitch. In the next stitch, make 10 chains and join with a slip stitch.

This will create the foam slightly sliding down the cup.

Continue making 3 chains and joining with a slip stitch until the end. Cut the yarn and fasten it off, leaving a small tail.

With a tapestry needle and this leftover yarn, secure the longer chains you made to create the sliding foam by sewing them into the cup.

FAQ about Crochet Keychain

Can I sell finished items made from your patterns?

Yes, you’re welcome to sell the finished items you make using my patterns. Just please don’t copy, repost, or sell the pattern itself.

What kind of yarn should I use for amigurumi keychains?

I recommend 100% cotton yarn for structure and durability, especially since keychains are handled often. But you can experiment, just keep your tension tight.

Can I use a different yarn or hook size for this pattern?

Absolutely. You can use any yarn you like, just be sure to adjust your hook size to match the yarn so you don’t end up with loose gaps and see-through holes in your stitches.

  1. Good morning, on round 17, I think you meant decrease not increase. 🙂

  2. After making 12 stitches in round 21, in the picture it looks like we decrease again down to 6, but I don’t see that on here.

    1. a-ha! It looks like right? But it does not decrease to 6! If you decrease to 6, the ending will not be looking neat like that shown in image.
I always stop at 12, cut the yarn, and fasten off grabbing just the front loop of the 12 stitches. 😉 I also have a video tutorial talking about that!
      Give it a try!

      1. Ok, I’ve tried it on 3 things, and I hate to say it but you’ve taught an old hooker a new trick!!!!!!!! It’s amazing, and really does look cleaner than doing it with 6. Thank you so much!!! By the way, your beer mug was a hit on Instagram, and my husband has it in his ‘man cave’ now…Thank you for taking the time to respond and explain that. I really will be doing this on all my projects when possible now.

        1. YAY!!! I am so happy to read that Margie! We are still learning with each other! And is great to hear your husband has it on his cave! Thank you for being here and for being open to learn even being an experienced hooker! ❤️❤️
